Learnit/Makeit Session I

Welcome!

Sometimes Less is More

Sometimes you get so many hits when you do a search, that the Internet seems like an overwhelming waste of time. This site was designed to save you, a busy educator, time and energy by giving you a great starting point. There's a lot of good stuff out there!

Saving Your Discoveries

When URL or web addresses are involved, it's more efficient to take notes digitally or use online bookmarks such as Backflip.com.

To take digital notes, resize your browser window so it takes up about 2/3 of your desktop. Launch a word processing application such as Microsoft Word, and resize it to take up the other 1/3 of the desktop. When you find a good web site, simply drag the icon next to the address over to the word processing window. (Netscape icon is a bookmark, Internet Explorer icon is @.) Save the notes document and email it to yourself. Add comments or notes to remind yourself of why you liked the page.

To use Backflip for the first time, launch a browser and go to http://www.backflip.com. Follow the instructions to set up a free account by selecting a username and password. Drag the link "backflip it!" to the location bar. When you want to save a page, click on the "backflip it" shortcut. You can also add notes. Your selections will be available online and accessible anywhere you have Internet access.
